Notes/ October 2007 I want to start with a brief explanation of the system
of governance we began using in our church several years ago. The Board sets general
policy, coordinates, sets long term goals and establishes councils and committees
to take action to reach the goals. This spreads influence about in the church,
and moves the board members away from having to micromanage. 1)
As you know I have been writing about our preparations for the work that needs
to be done for out church. Unfortunately, not all of this repair work could wait
until we have another capital campaign. We have already had the repair work done
on the chapel
roof and to the decaying beam underneath. Our parking lot needs to be brought
up to conditions where everyone has room to park, as well as not having to step
around puddles. Hopefully, the RE roof can be patched to give us a little more
time before it need to be completely redone. Our Facilities Council as
well as some members of the Long Range Planning Committee have been working
very hard to determine the best way these repairs can be done. 2)
Scott Harrigan, Vice-Chair, will attend the Presidents' Annual Conference on Saturday,
September 29 at the First Universalist Church of Central Square. 3)
The Board Has approved Diane Bofinger's request to hold a Youth Leadership
Development Conference at our church in the Spring of 2008. The conference
would start on a Friday night. This request originally came from Jody Brown, The
St. Lawrence District
Youth Coordinator. We would expect thirty-to-fifty youth and adults from around
the district to spend the weekend. The conference is aimed at helping youth to
develop leadership skills. 4) The Board requests every group with
a budget please watch your figures in order that your requests do not go
over budget. 5) We have signed a snowplowing contract with Greenfields
again this winter. Eileen McCallister, Board Chair board
